Goo Goo Dolls Fans Offended by ‘Today’ Host’s Introduction

Goo Goo Dolls fans have spent much of the past two days whining after “Today” host Craig Melvin referred to the band as “a classic rock group.”

The Goo Goo Dolls were among the acts appearing at Wednesday’s “88th Annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center,” joining country legend Dolly Parton and pop singer Kelly Clarkson. When Melvin introduced the band as a “classic rock group,” only seconds passed before angry messages began popping up on Twitter.

“How DARE you, Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting?” one user tweeted. “In the year that is 2020, do you have you remind a bunch of millennials that we’re getting older?” Another wrote, “The NBC host just called the Goo Goo Dolls a classic rock band and this is officially the oldest I’ve ever felt.”

How old does a group have to be before they’re considered “classic?”
