Set Yourself Up for Success in 2026
The New Year is here and with it the call for “New Year, New You,” and a complete overhaul of your life. The pressure to change can be very stressful. This year, maybe we can try something little softer by adding a small simple task to our day.
- Clean up one small area of the house.
- Choose one small corner that’s been collecting clutter and clean it up. Choose something small and simple to take on.
- Create a reading list for the year that brings you joy.
- Curate your year of books and fill it with exciting and interesting reads to keep you engaged throughout the year.
- Decide a new skill you want to learn this year and make a plan to do it.
- Find a local painting classes or the neighborhood piano teacher and get on the schedule.
- Plan a date night or friends outing for each month so you have something to look forward to.
- Put something on the calendar each month to connect with people you care about. These can be extravagant outings, or simple game nights.
- Start a graduate journal or “win jar”
- Each day, take a few moments to reflect on, and write down, things that went well and for which you are grateful. On tough days look through the wins and gratitudes to remind you of the good.
The New Year is a great time for reflection and future planning. If resolutions are feeling too stressful right now, maybe try one of these small tasks instead. Start small and do the best you can. If you don’t complete the tasks or fall short you can always try again tomorrow.
