Realistic Halloween Display Prompts Numerous Police Reports

The Dallas Police Department has issued a request to residents: Stop calling to report the dead bodies strewn about the front yard of a local home.

That’s because the “bodies” are the creation of local artist Steven Novak, who’s known for his extravagant Halloween displays. This year, Novak decided to take a more realistic approach, he says. “I’ve always been up to hijinks like flying ghosts or 7-foot tall snow sculptures of myself,” he says. But this year, he opted to do “something that would really freak people out walking by in the dark. So I whipped up some dummies and slung 20 gallons of blood all over.”

Among the people who have shown up to view the gruesome display are officers with the Dallas Police Department. “Neighbors told me cop cars were in front of my house a lot during the day,” Novak says. “I was only home twice to receive them. They told me they thought it was cool and that they were only there because they were required to reply to complaints from the sergeant.”

Is there someone in your neighborhood who goes overboard with holiday decorations? What’s the creepiest Halloween display you’ve seen?
