Arguably there two most popular entries in the science fiction genre, Star Trek and Star Wars will be coming together in theaters December 18. According to a story today at The Hollywood Reporter, the Star Trek Beyond trailer will debut before screenings of J.J. Abrams’ much-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens. JJ Abrams reveals his inspiration for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

When George Lucas first created Star Wars, it was a mishmash of inspirations from ancient mythology and Japanese samurai films through to classic Westerns and Flash Gordon. Director JJ Abrams is about to unleash The Force Awakens onto the world, and one of his inspirations is equally eclectic. The Cloverfield and Mission: Impossible director said: “The fact is watching any inspiring storyteller, a film-maker, watching Terrence Malick movies – who’s not a director you would normally think you’d go to for a Star Wars movie – and yet I don’t know of a more profound and emotional film-maker than Malick.”

How Many Times Can a Fan Watch ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ In a Row?

It’s not just J.J. Abrams’ revival of the franchise that the potential Star Wars uberfan will have to survive. Contestants will begin at 4 a.m. on Dec. 17 with a sequential viewing of the six Star Wars movies to date: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars (AKA A New Hope), The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi — before settling down for what’s officially described as”an endless, round-the-clock screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens until one final fan is left to claim their mantle of intergalactic super fan supremacy.”
