‘Hobbit’ trilogy to play select theaters Dec. 15 ahead of official release of ‘Five Armies’

BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 14 (UPI) — Warner Bros. Pictures says all three installments of its Hobbit franchise will be screened as a nearly nine-hour-long movie marathon in select theaters Dec. 15.The event is scheduled to take place two days before the U.S. theatrical release of the third and final film The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which, like The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, are based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic fantasy novel The Hobbit. (Read more)

Wanna See ‘Interstellar’ Again And Again? Par, AMC Issue The Unlimited Ticket

For those Interstellar fans going through withdrawal after seeing the film the first time, Paramount and AMC Theatres have teamed up to offer them an opportunity to continually orbit screenings of the Christiopher Nolan sci-fi feature. The studio and theater chain are offering members of the latter’s frequent moviegoer club, AMC Stubs, the chance to purchase “The Interstellar Unlimited Ticket,” a first of its amc theatreskind. For one price, AMC Stubs members can see Interstellar as many times as they like. Those members who’ve already seen the film have an option to upgrade. “Interstellar Unlimited Tickets” will be sold at 330 AMC locations, which reps just under 10% of the film’s current theatrical count of 3,561 theaters (AMC operates 344 theatres in the U.S., counting 4,959 screens). The “Unlimited Ticket” price varies by location, from $19.99 to $34.99. Those AMC Stubs members who have already bought a ticket can upgrade for $14.99. There is a limited quantity of unlimited passes available. The impetus to issue them stemmed from AMC consumer feedback, which indicated that moviegoers wanted to see Interstellar again. In a statement, Elizabeth Frank, AMC Theatres executive VP and chief content and programming officer, exclaimed that the unlimited ticket is good “at any AMC location, any showtime, in any format, including IMAX.” (Read More)
