WINTER IS COMING… to Megaplex Theaters

Here’s a little bit of local news that is sure to mend the wounds of nerds who can’t afford Comic-Con FanX tickets. IMAX just announced a one-week run of Game of Thrones screenings that will take place at IMAX theaters all over the country.

Starting January 29th, IMAX will show the last two episodes of Season 4 (titled “Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children”), edited together in a two-hour presentation. The IMAX screenings will also include never-before-seen footage from the upcoming Season 5, hitting HBO on April 12th.

If you’re a huge Game of Thrones fan, like myself, then you know how great of an idea this is. Suffering through nine months without new Game of Thrones can be hard. It’s nice to know that IMAX and HBO care enough about its fans to help them through the final stretch on the road to Season 5.

If you’re not a Game of Thrones fan, but are curious about starting, here’s my suggestion: Binge watch the first 4 seasons as quickly as possible, then save the last two episodes of Season 4 for the IMAX screening. Many GoT fans consider those episodes some of the best in the entire series, and it would be an incredible experience to see them for the first time on the big screen.

Here’s the list of theaters in Utah where you can buy tickets:

  • Megaplex 14 & IMAX at Legacy Crossing – Centerville
  • Megaplex 17 & IMAX, Jordan Commons – Sandy
  • Megaplex Theatres & IMAX at Valley Fair Mall – West Valley City

Tickets go on sale starting January 16th

NEED MORE CONVINCING?

Let me mention that Game of Thrones had the best TV “one-shot” scene of 2014, a shot that you will be able to see in IMAX. See below (no major spoilers):
